Dr. Elizabeth Yurth, founder of Boulder Longevity Institute

From one provider to a full team.

Boulder Longevity Institute opened in 2006, co-founded by Dr. Elizabeth Yurth and David Van Bussum. From the start, BLI practiced medicine differently, looking beyond symptoms to understand and address health at the cellular level.

BLI was among the first clinics in the country to bring peptides and regenerative therapies to patients. That early conviction has grown into a full team and a set of signature services. This fall, we're marking the milestone with the people who made it possible.

Come and go as you like.

Nothing formal, nothing you have to sit through. Show up when it suits you.

How an orthopedic physician redefined longevity medicine.

Boulder Longevity Institute didn't start in 2006. It started when Dr. Yurth kept noticing that her patients' injuries healed while the patients often didn't.

  1. 1983 to the mid 90s

    Fixing what was broken

Orthopedic and sports medicine, practiced at a high level: elite athletes, complex injuries, difficult spines.

    • 1983

A bachelor of science in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Colorado. The cell biology came first, and it never really left.

    • 1988

Medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at USC.

    • Late 80s

Internship and residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at UC Irvine, then a fellowship in spine, sports and occupational medicine with the Stanford-affiliated SOAR group.

    • Early 90s

Team physician for Santa Clara University. Consultant to Stanford Athletics, the San Francisco 49ers, and professional dancers.

  2. Mid to late 90s

    The pattern she couldn't ignore

The injuries healed. The patients, often, did not.

    • The pattern

Treatment worked, and people still came back tired and inflamed, carrying hormone dysfunction and metabolic disease, recovering slowly from everything.

    • The question

How do you restore the body's ability to heal, instead of treating symptoms one at a time? Everything after this point follows from that question.

  3. Early 2000s to 2021

    Two practices at once

Building a longevity clinic in the evenings while still running a full orthopedic practice by day.

    • Early 2000s

Further training in regenerative medicine, hormone optimization, functional medicine, peptide therapeutics, mitochondrial biology and cellular medicine, and among the earliest physicians to pursue board certification in anti-aging and regenerative medicine.

    • 2006

Co-founded Boulder Longevity Institute. Almost nobody was putting lifestyle medicine, hormone optimization, regenerative orthopedics, peptide therapy and cellular medicine under one roof.

    • 2006 to 2021

Days as a partner at BoulderCentre for Orthopedics and Spine. Evenings at BLI, seeing longevity patients and writing protocols. Fifteen years standing in both worlds, and seeing exactly where the first one ran out.

  4. 2010s to today

    Teaching the field

From practicing peptide medicine to writing the frameworks other clinicians now work from.

    • 2010s

Among the first physicians in the country to put peptide therapeutics into clinical practice, and not simply to use them: the safety protocols, dosing strategies and cycling models came out of years of real cases.

    • 2010s on

Faculty for SSRP, Longevity Docs and nuBioAge, and founder of the Human Optimization Academy. Thousands of clinicians taught to integrate this medicine safely.

    • 2020s

A leading international voice in cellular and longevity medicine, lecturing at major conferences and advising companies building the next generation of therapeutics.

    • 2026

Invited to testify before the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee, where she provided testimony on the responsible therapeutic use of compounded peptides.

“Understand the biology first. Then help the body heal.”
